Master Data Management (MDM)

For years Companies have treated the ERP data as the master data for the company. However, as business needs have evolved, the ERP data has become too restrictive. The data that the ERP needs to know about a customer or an inventory item is substantially different than what a web store, Point Of Sale (POS) system or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system needs to collect. An ERP can get by with a single contact at a company and a single email. The web store, POS and CRM need to know all of the employees attached to that account including emails and phone numbers. For marketing purposes, you need birthdays, spouses names, interests and much more. For these reasons, it makes much more sense to implement an MDM where you collect and store ALL of the customer data and then have the appropriate data fed to each application..
